HOW YOU CAN HELP

We are not the only ones trying to play our part during these unprecedented times. Around the community, many other organizations and people have taken the initiative to assist in Covid-19. Here are other great resources for you to get involved!

CONVOY OF HOPE: 

 

Elevation Church and former Carolina Panthers Steve Smith and Jonathan Stewart are partnering to provide Covid-19 relief supplies to local residents in need through Convoy of Hope. As of March 31, $36,000 have been reached. 

ONLINE DONATIONS

NC ARTIST RELIEF FUND:

 

This fund, created by VAE Raleigh, Artspace, PineCone and the United Arts Council, serves artists whose gigs and exhibitions have been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. To donate, visit vaeraleigh.org/artist-relief-fund

DORCAS MINISTRIES:

Dorcas is continuing to accept donations at their donation drop off area during regular hours: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accepting monetary donations here: dorcascary.org/donations/. For information on how to donate food and what items are needed, go to dorcascary.org/food-pantry-needs-2/.

WAKE COUNTY FOOD SUPPORT:

Ranging from providing free meals for children, food shuttle and drive opportunities, and volunteering with locations across the county, Wake County food support needs donations.

HOUSE A DUKE STUDENT: â€‹

If you are able to provide housing to students unable to return to campus housing in or around the Durham area (including Chapel Hill, Raleigh, etc.) please fill out the form below. Students in need of housing will be given access to a Google Sheet with available housing options and will be able to contact you directly in the event that they need it. 

FOOD/SUPPLY DRIVES

THE GLASS JUG BEER LAB: 

 

The South Durham bottleshop and brewery is collecting donations and non-perishable foods. Cash and food donations will go to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Cleaning supplies are also welcomed. The Raleigh hunger relief group is seeing a volunteer shortage due to cancellations. Those willing and interested in packing meals can email Mynikah@foodshuttle.org or visit foodshuttle.org.

OAK CITY CARES:

 

This Raleigh group works with those experiencing homelessness and is asking for non-latex gloves, disinfectant wipes and Lysol spray, along with volunteers and donations. To help visit oakcitycares.org.

NOTE IN THE POCKET:

 

In addition to continuing to accept clothing donations at their donation center and remote locations, Note in the Pocket is accepting food donations for those affected by school closings at their Volunteer Center, 5100 Lacy Avenue, Raleigh 27609, between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday. 

URBAN MINISTRIES OF WAKE COUNTY:

 

Urban Ministries of Wake County workers are filling up to 50 cars a day with a week’s worth of groceries from their food pantry at 1390 Capital Boulevard. The Helen Wright Center for Women at 401 W Cabarrus Street, is open and housing 33 women who are now staying all day. They are seeking some lunches and dinners for them from the community. UNC HEALTH:

 

UNC Health is asking community organizations, corporations and individuals to donate much-needed medical supplies to help protect workers and patients across their respective systems. While the organization is conserving key supplies and is prepared to play a significant role in the community’s response to COVID-19, community assistance could help extend the ability to provide care as hospitals receive higher numbers of coronavirus patients. Currently, the biggest need is additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

 

Most Urgent Needs

  • N95 masks

  • Surgical masks

  • Surgical masks with shield

  • Nasal swabs for medical use

Other Needs

  • Disinfectant

  • Eye protection, including safety goggles/glasses

  • Face shield

  • Gloves, disposable

  • Gowns, disposable

  • Hand sanitizer, greater than 60% alcohol

  • Hand soap

  • Shoe covers, disposable

WAKE MED MEDICAL SUPPLIES:

 

WakeMed is grateful for the outpouring of support from our community and will accept donated supplies to be allocated to the areas of greatest needs as it relates to the COVID-19 response. Needed items vary by facility.

Anyone with unopened supplies that may be useful in the response effort are urged to email WakeMed at info@wakemed.org with details regarding available items. Due to high volume, all individuals and organizations that email will be contacted within 24-48 hours regarding the items and the process for making the donation. Please note that only new, unopened packages of supplies will be accepted. WakeMed is not accepting handmade items.

CROSSPOINTE CHURCH: 

 

Crosspointe Church, the NW Cary YMCA and area PTAs are collaborating to help alleviate the issue of hunger for our students who are part of the local backpack buddy program.  Effective Monday, March 16th, they will begin collecting items to distribute to the families impacted by the school closure.  If your school has students who may go hungry due to school closures, please inform the families that they can drive through to pick up bags of food. In need of volunteers and donations.
